To all our loyal patrons, the Baltimore Philharmonia Orchestra is extremely grateful for the loyalty and support given to us over the past 11 years. We are deeply concerned, however, that this year is going to turn out to be our final season. The recession our country is experiencing has devastated our endowment fund. We lost over $16,000 last year due to the immense decline of the stock market. It takes from $15,000 to $20,000 per year to operate a symphony orchestra at the professional level we’ve tried to maintain. Your donations are a huge help, but only cover a small portion of our total expenses. The alternatives facing us are to begin charging $20 to $25 per person for admission tickets, which goes against our mission of providing free concerts to the community, and may cause a big drop in the attendance at our concerts. Another possibility would be to obtain corporate sponsorship of our programs by one or more of our community’s businesses. A $5,000 donation for each program (Fall, Winter, & Spring) from 3 different corporations would cover most of our needs. If anyone knows a CEO or other high ranking officer of a local company who might be open to sponsoring one or more of our concerts, please help us to contact them as soon as possible. Sadly, the third alternative is to end our effort to provide concerts of the works of the great masters of symphonic & Broadway music to our community. It has been our pleasure to perform for you, and we certainly would hope to continue for a long time, but without proper funding, we cannot survive. Thank you all for eleven wonderful years!
